Peace. Tranquility. Family. Friends. Relaxation, in heavenly surroundings.
Les Brandes is very special place, perfect for a complete retreat from the pressures of daily life. Two lovely stones houses sit at the end of a long track, surrounded by woodland and open pasture, ensuring quiet and privacy for your holiday.
Walnut Cottage, the larger house, has a wonderful open plan living area with high ceilings, huge windows and a wood burner. Eight people can eat around the table and there are comfortable rattan chairs for relaxing. The thick stone walls mean this room is beautifully cool in the summer. In the cooler months, the log burner makes the room toasty warm.
Off the open plan leaving area is a huge balcony with a table that comfortably sits 10. This is the perfect place for lunch under the shade of the plane tree. The views down the valley are lovely, and you will often see deer passing through in the morning or evening.
The compact kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook for family and friends, including an electric hob/oven, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, a coffee machine, and an array of cooking pots and utensils.
Upstairs in Walnut Cottage is a double bedroom with a charming Juliette balcony. Beside this master bedroom is a large modern bathroom with an excellent shower. On the landing is a desk area.
Up a few steps from the landing is a second bedroom in the attic with three single beds - a perfect hideaway for children. There is the option to pull out a fourth single bed.
The smaller house, Swiss Cottage, has a fabulous double bedroom with a modern en suite bathroom. A lovely picture window floods the room with light. The second double bedroom upstairs is on two levels, with a dressing table and hanging space on a raised level.
Downstairs in Swiss Cottage is a kitchenette, equipped with a small fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee machine and sink, and a table for four - perfect for breakfast. There is a bathroom downstairs with a bath and shower. There is also a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
Les Brandes is all about the convivial enjoyment of sharing meals and wine with friends and family. Everything that you might need is provided for you to enjoy meals on the balcony, the patio or the beautiful main room in Walnut Cottage. The antique dresser is full of crockery, pretty serving dishes, cutlery and glasses. Outdoor crockery and glasses are available for use by the pool or for picnics in hidden nooks and crannies around the property.
The house is well equipped for young children. For sleeping, there is a travel cot, and a removable safety side for a single bed. In the bathroom is a set of steps for little people to reach the sink, a small seat for the loo, and a changing mat. For eating, there is a full range of melamine plates, bowls and cups, and children’s cutlery. A lovely original French high chair is perfect for smaller children. There are games and books in the main living area.
The two houses offer great flexibility for a group of family or friends, enabling space and privacy for different age groups or family units. Children love the thrill of the ‘dormitory’ in the attic, teenagers relish the possibility of having a house to themselves, or two families can enjoy a house each. If you are a smaller group and would prefer to just rent Walnut Cottage, the utility room and downstairs bathroom in Swiss Cottage will still be available to you. Swiss Cottage will never be let independently of Walnut Cottage.
The outside space at Les Brandes is truly special. A large heated swimming pool (10mx5m) is set between the two houses. Sun loungers, parasols and a swing seat are available for use and a lovely arbour with table and chairs offers shade and seclusion at the far end of the pool. This area catches the last rays of evening sun and is a wonderful place to enjoy an evening cocktail.
Just below the swimming pool, on the edge of Walnut Cottage is the summer kitchen, perfect for the preparation of meals, enjoying a drink (or two) at the bar and using the large gas BBQ. Beside the summer kitchen is lovely patio with a large table that seats 10, overlooking the pasture and the valley - the perfect spot for evening meals by candlelight.
Les Brandes used to be a thriving small holding before the Second World War, and the facade of the old farm house can still be admired beside Swiss Cottage, a reminder of the long history of the property. Mature walnut and fruit trees are dotted around the house. A number of walks and cycle routes can be joined in the vicinity of the property. There are so many opportunities for adventurers, young and old, to explore and reconnect with nature.
There is parking for several cars.
Given the age of the property, the ground is uneven, there are steps inside the houses, and up to the pool. Phone signal is limited, but there is wifi in Walnut Cottage.
